School Policies



General Reglulations

1. Buses drop off students at 6:55 am.

2. School day begins at 7: lO am and ends at 2:25 pm.

3. Radios, CD's, tape players, beepers, electronic devices, iPods, and cell phones are not to be used at school. All such pieces of sound equipment will be confiscated, marked for ownership, and kept in the school vault until picked up by a parent or legal guardian (1st  Offense); kept until end of year (2nd Offense).

4.  Tobacco of any form at school is forbidden including dipping, smoking, chewing and possession.

5. Ethnic references and name-calling will not be tolerated.

6. Students are not to leave the campus without permission from an administrator. This is a suspendable offense.

7. Student parking permits are required at a cost of$3.00. Students must leave their cars once parked and are not to loiter around the parking lot. Students are not permitted to park in the teachers' parking lot.

8. If the school bus is late, go directly to the Attendance Clerk to obtain an admit slip before reporting to the homeroom teacher.

9. Fighting at school, on school buses, or while walking to and from school is forbidden. A student is the responsibility of the school from the time he leaves home until he returns home. Fighting or provoking a fight is considered to be a serious offence. The student has the responsibility to avoid a fight and report any threat of a fight to the school administration.

10. Failure to properly check into school when tardy is a suspendable offense.

11. A total of four (4) minutes is given between class changes. Tardiness to class will not be tolerated.

Accumulated tardies will result in suspension. (See Tardy Policy)

12. Students damaging or destroying school property must pay for, or replace same, and will be disciplined according to school policy.

13. All students must have a hall pass to leave a classroom. Cutting classes will not be tolerated. This is a suspendable offense.

14. State law prohibits students from carrying firearms, knives, or other implements which might inflict harm or injury to another person. Possession and/or use of any weapon constitutes an expulsion.

Any student or non-student found guilty of carrying a firearm on a school campus or school bus shall be imprisoned at hard labor for up to five years. (L.R.S. 14:95.2)

15.  All students must follow the dress code. (See Dress Code Policy)

16. All students will dress out for Physical Education classes using a regulation school P.E. uniform. This uniform can be purchased from the instructor and will cost $16.00. Failure to dress out according to class regulations will be dealt with according to school discipline policy and the student risks failing the class.

17. No beverage containers of any type can be brought to school.

18. Any debt, or lost books, will result in a held report card at year's end. The student responsible for all

debts will not be allowed to transfer to another school.

19. All playing cards and other gaming devices are prohibited on school campus.

20. Parents must check all students in after 7:35 am.

21. Identification cards are to be worn around the neck and clearly visible at all times.

22. Textbooks will be scanned using ID tags only. Students must write their names in all textbooks checked out to them. Textbooks will be returned using Bar Codes.

Hall Passes

In an effort to maximize instructional time and decrease classroom distractions, no student will be allowed to leave a classroom during the first 30 minutes and last 10 minutes of class. The only exceptions are when a student is called to the office by an administrator or his designee. Each student must secure a hall pass from the teacher whenever leaving the classroom. Any student outside of class without a hall pass will be cited for leaving without permission and will be subject to disciplinary action.

ID Cards

All students are required to wear a Student Identification Card while on campus. It is to be worn around the neck at all times and clearly visible. No defacement or changes to the ID card will be tolerated. All students must produce the ID card when requested by any faculty, staff, or security personnel. Failure to wear an ID or refusal to produce the card will result in disciplinary action. Lost cards should be immediately replaced.  Replacement IDs can be purchased in the library for $5.00.  The ID card will be required to receive the following services:

 1. Checking out books and materials from the library

2. Printing from the library computers

3. Reduction for cost of tickets to athletic events

4.    Picking up a yearbook

5.    Voting in school elections

6.    Cafeteria accounts

7.    Taking Tests

 

Attendance

1.      In order to be eligible to receive grades, high school students must be in attendance a minimum of 80 days per semester.

2.       Upon returning to school after an absence, a note from home, doctor, court, etc. stating a reason for the absence is required. The note must be brought to the attendance office, signed by an administrator and excused or unexcused in accordance with the law on pupil attendance. An admit slip must be attached to an excuse and the student must present it to each teacher upon returning to class.

A note from a parent or guardian DOES NOT excuse an absence.

3.       The note must be presented to the teacher within 72 hours if it is excused, so that the student can make up missed work. Any parents' notes must be signed by an administrator.

4. Students attending a discipline center must bring the proper paper work to school and show it to all teachers in order to make up missed work.

5.       School work cannot be made up for unexcused absences. Students are given two days per day missed to make up any missed work due to an absence or disciplinary actions.

 

Tardy Policy

Any student who is late to class should be sent to the Dean of Students or designee to get a tardy slip. The following disciplinary action will be followed for those students tardy to school or class:

1st Offense: Verbal warning from an administrator or designee

2nd Offense: Parent/Guardian contacted

3rd Offense: Fifty (50) minutes of TOR during P.E. or Study Hall; Parent/Guardian contacted

4th Offense: Full Day TOR; Parent/Guardian contacted

5th Offense: Two (2) day suspension at the Discipline Center; Parent/Guardian contacted

Check-in Policy

1. Any student who arrives late must report to the Attendance Clerk and receive an admit slip. (DO NOT GO TO YOUR LOCKER FIRST.)

2. The admit slip must be presented to all teachers of classes that the student missed.
