GEOMETRY CLASS RULES AND PROCEDURES

Students should begin studying for their exams. Do the chapter test on chapters 1-5 for practice. Suggest you look over pgs. 64, 122, 184, 256 for practice as well as the chapter test and reviews.  I will lead discussions on Units 1 and 2, Logic. Read through vocabulary, postulates and theorems daily to aid with memory work.   You can ask questions about your review at the beginning of any class period until your exam.

Attendance

Geometry is a difficult subject.  One topic builds on another.  Daily participation is a must.  Do not get behind in your course work.  Attendance is mandatory.  Please make every effort to be present and on time.

Grades and Homework

Grades are determined by chapter test, an exam each semester (20%), quizzes (pop and announced), class participation, two projects each semester and completed assignments.  Geometry is a demanding college preparatory math course and requires at least 45 minutes of homework EACH night.  Often you will be given class time at the beginning and/or end of the class period to work in groups discussing the lesson.  What you do not finish in class becomes homework.  Homework is graded.  All problems assigned have answers that either appear in the answer section or will be posted the next day.  If you find you've made an error you should re-work the problem until you get the correct answer, thus discovering errors before they become bad habits.  Homework is the place for you to learn from your mistakes.

If a quiz or test is missed because of an excused absence, it is your responsibility to make-up the test the very next day for a one-day absence.  For extended absences, you will be allowed the same number of days for make-up as days of absence.  If the test or quiz is not made up in that time, you may receive a failing grade for that test or quiz.  Work should be requested in advance for excused absences and test taken before the absence if possible.

*****Students attending field trips are considered present and responsible for all work completed or assigned on the missed day.  This again should be requested and completed in advance.

Grade Scale

I am on the parish scale:

100-93.5%  A    93.4-86.5%  B

86.4-77.5% C    77.4-69.5%  D

Classroom Material

You should have 2-3 inch binder, divided into three sections:  Notes/Homework, Investigations/Activities, Journal.  You should also have a set of geometry tools (compass, ruler and protractor at home), scientific calculator, and a writing implement.  You should bring all materials except tools to class daily.  Tools in the classroom will be assigned for classroom use.  You will have a Notetaking Guide provided to you.  It should always be in your binder.  You may want an envelope or folder to hold assignments if you choose not to bring your binder home daily.

Classroom Management

While discussion is going on in the class, I expect you to be listening and not speaking.  At designated times during the class, you may sharpen pencils, check homework, etc.  When working in your groups I expect you to behave according to the norms of cooperative behavior.  You never leave the classroom without my permission and a pass.

Extra Help

I am available for help from 6:40 to 7:10 in my classroom.  Be sure to get the required pass in advance.  Questions will also be handled daily in groups, or during work time and homework checks.

Please sign your name on the attached sheet indicating that you have read and understood the rules of the class.  Take this home and have at least one of your parents or guardians sign indicating that she/he has read these rules.  Return as soon as possible.
